Here's yet another scarily accurate personality profile from The Secret Language of Birthdays by Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers. This one is damn near perfectly matched. I think Molly's profile might actually be equal in accuracy to Snape's. Someday I gotta take a break from writing these comparisons to write JKR and ask her if she used this book, because I get more sure with each one.

Scorpio - October 30 - The Day of the Overseer

"Strengths: Organized, Confident, Attentive
Weaknesses: Self-Neglectful, Frustrated, Preoccupied"

All of these sound exactly right. In fact, the rest of the personality description seems so accurate, I have very little to add to it.

"When given the chance, October 30 people generally make good managers who have a talent for directing others. Those born on this day are usually multi-talented and can often bring abilities specific to one field of endeavor to bear on another, traditionally unrelated, field."

She does one hell of a job managing and directing her large family. And although in the wizarding world, it seems like parenting and magic are strongly related fields, she's the first one to really show us how magic is used in a home setting.

"In addition to their expertise, they invariably have the ability to draw people to projects and keep them interested and motivated."

Molly is a motivating factor in her whole family's life, as well as Harry's and Hermione's to some extent. She's always pushing everyone to behave (we're looking at you, Fred&George) and do their best in school/work/life.

"The image of an October 30 person crossing a sea is indeed a relevant metaphor for those born on this day, as they must sail through three crucial periods in their lives: their late teens, late twenties, and early forties. At each juncture they are faced with the daunting challenge of uncharted waters."

We don't know much about Molly's teen years, but she and Arthur eloped when she was 18, around the time that the war was beginning. In her late 20's, 5 of her 7 children had been born. In her early 40's, Harry, Hermione, and Ron entered Hogwarts and Voldemort had become active again.

"Should they decide to stay where they are and shun this challenge they can find themselves living out their lives in frustration with their wishes remaining unfulfilled. On the other hand, if they take the plunge, they may have to suffer hardship and instability for an indetermined length of time."

Marrying in her teens and having such a big family has definitely been a challenge; I can't imagine any other life that would better fit her temperment and personality.

"Though October 30 people often initiate projects themselves, they are also capable of conforming to another person's system or way of working. They possess a rare capacity to be both directive and receptive. Thus they can make good chiefs but also good braves, good cooks but also good assistants. They adapt well to tasks of maintenance, and are therefore able to keep a project running (whether their own or another's) despite problems that arise."

"Directive and receptive" is right -- she has no problem making her feelings and opinions known, but she also keeps careful tabs on her family and their feelings, even if they're away.

"October 30 people have a way of asserting their authority effectively. This is not to say that they do not arouse resentment from time to time in their family, social circle or workplace, but that they are nonetheless able to smooth ruffled feathers and convince everyone to go on with the job."

Molly definitely knows how to command respect among her children. Even Fred and George, as wild as they are, fear her motherly wrath. And although her parenting does inspire some rebellion, everyone generally wants to do their best for her.

"Though, as mentioned, October 30 people are not averse to taking the challenge of a new opportunity when it presents itself, they can nevertheless be so attentive to the here and now that they miss chances to advance their career or widen their world. They do better when they give themselves the space to think broadly, the distance and objectivity necessary to view their lives from another side. Too often, those born on this day are preoccupied with the discharging of responsibilities when all the while the clock is ticking on their larger plans."

I can imagine Molly getting so caught up in daily details that she doesn't take time to reflect on her own life and personal interests.

"October 30 people must not only direct their energies outward toward the success of worldly concerns, but also pay more attention to their personal needs and wants. They must beware of sacrificing their own spiritual development for the sake of a larger social group or cause; allowing time for themselves to grow as individuals is equally important."

Since the last couple decades have been devoted to her family and the war effort, I wonder what she would do for herself if she had some free time.

"Tarot: The 3rd card of the Major Arcana is The Empress, who symbolizes creative intelligence. She is the perfect woman, the ultra-feminine, Mother Earth nurturer, who embodies our dreams, hopes and aspirations. This card represents positive traits of charm, grace and unconditional love, but also negative traits of vanity and affectation, as well as intolerance for imperfection."

The nurturer aspect is dead on. I can't imagine Molly being vain, but there is definitely a perfectionist streak in her.

"Health: October 30 people are often more concerned with the health of their family members, employees and co-workers than they are with their own. Those born on this day must learn to apply their talent for maintenance to their own bodies."

We have witnessed her concern over her family and their safety. I bet it's easy to forget to sleep enough and eat well when so many of the people are you love are in Mortal Peril.

The plot thickens.

I bought the book! (and am happily experimenting with it. I'll find out if there is something to it and have a nice game for friends and family at the same time, but back to Potter...) Of course I was curios and looked up some characters. Draco and Ron make all the similarities so far look like nothing! Well, not that Molly isn't perfect too.
I'm pretty convinced she used exactly this book. This is such a cool finding of you!

Yay! I'm glad you got the book.

I had only glanced over Ron and Draco's birthdays, but taking a closer look, you're right -- they are dead on as well.
